MICRODERMABRASION

Renew Your Skin
with Microdermabrasion

ABOUT

MICRODERMABRASION

Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical method of rejuvenation by means of mechanical skin exfoliation, without chemicals or laser.

During treatment, a highly-controlled flow of medical-grade aluminum oxide crystals is released, which gently sand off the dead outermost layers of skin (the ones that are dulling your skin’s shine).

This exfoliation, combined with a vacuum, helps increase blood and oxygen flow to the skin whilst stimulating new collagen growth and reveals the new, living skin cells on the skin’s surface.

This quick and convenient treatment can be used on the face, chest, back, or shoulders to immediately restore smooth, younger-looking skin.

FAQ

The technique involves propelling microcrystals across the skin’s surface, removing only the top layer of skin cells. This technology reveals new cells, creating a healthy glow. The epidermal layers of the skin are rejuvenated leading to increased collagen production and plumper skin.

Microdermabrasion is a progressive procedure, which means that after the first session your skin will feel softer and you may see a very subtle improvement. However, to gain visible improvement we generally recommend a course of sessions because additional treatments cause an increase in circulation within the dermis as newer, healthier skin cells are produced.

One of the benefits of microdermabrasion is that it’s virtually pain-free. You will feel a subtle suction as the vacuum is moved over the skin and perhaps a tingling sensation. The crystals used are hard enough to disrupt tired skin cells that cause dull-looking skin, but small enough not to do any damage or cause discomfort or pain. The only real side effect is a possible temporary redness of the skin, which soon fades. Your skin may look slightly pink after the treatment, but this will subside within a few hours.

Going to a regulated and qualified practitioner is the best way to treat your skin condition safely and effectively. Our microdermabrasion treatment is carried out in a highly clinical environment and the treatment is delivered according to strict medical protocols, which means you can rest assured that the procedures are very safe.

You can return to your normal routine straight after your microdermabrasion treatment and can even reapply your make-up right away. It’s important to protect your newly rejuvenated skin from damaging elements by wearing an SPF daily to protect your skin. Your practitioner will be able to advise on how you can best maintain the results of microdermabrasion. Other existing medical conditions should be highlighted during your consultation and advice will be given on an individual basis.

Many people ask how long it will take to see results. You will notice the improvement in your overall complexion from your first microdermabrasion treatment.

A course of microdermabrasion treatment can help to reduce unwanted pigmentation marks caused by acne or sun damage.

Both microdermabrasion and chemical peels provide resurfacing and regenerative benefits to the skin. The physical action of microdermabrasion exfoliation removes the outer layers of stratum corneum which compromises the skin’s natural barrier function, puts stress on the skin, and triggers an inflammatory cascade. This allows for greater product absorption and increased cell turn over, thereby encouraging skin regeneration.

In contrast, while chemical peels also compromise the skin’s barrier function, the effect is subtler and works at a deeper, cellular level. Shedding occurs when new cells migrate from the deeper layers to replace the damaged tissue, as opposed to rushing to replace cells that have been forcibly removed through mechanical abrasion. As such, chemical peels do not cause an immediate improvement in the appearance of the skin. Instead, improvements become visible over the course of a few days following the treatment.

It’s important to remember that not all chemical peels fall into the same category. Your practitioner will advise which is best for you and your skin type.
